Rome Hit By Second Earthquake | 6.0 Mag Earthquake Rocks Central Italy
A second earthquake has rocked central Italy today just hours after a fatal quake and tremors had unsettled the region.
The latest activity was recorded at 6.1 (lowered from 6.4) was 3.2 kilometers (2 miles) north of Visso and 58 km (36 miles) from Perugia, the USGS reported.
Earlier, a magnitude-5.5 quake struck the same region. The epicenter was about 9 kilometers away, south-southwest of Visso. The first quake hit at 7 p.m. (1 p.m. ET) between Perugia and Macerata, according to ANSA.
1000 deaths are expected as rescue efforts are being put into place for those injured by the quake.
Over 700.000 people are reported to of felt shaking from the earthquake.
Marco Rinaldi, the mayor of Ussita, minutes from the epicentre, described the tremors as “apocalyptic” and “unheard-of violence”.
He said “many houses collapsed” and that people were screaming on the street as the town was left without power.
“The facade of the church collapsed. By now I have felt many earthquakes. This is the strongest of my life. It was something terrible,”

Donald Trump ‘will break up new media conglomerate oligopolies’
Donald Trump‘s campaign on Sunday said the GOP nominee would “break up the new media conglomerate oligopolies” if elected to the White House.
Trump’s senior economic adviser Peter Navarro said in a statement that the media conglomerates have “gained enormous control over our information, intrude into our personal lives, and in this election, are attempting to unduly influence America’s political process.”
“The very corporations that have gained from shipping America’s factories and jobs offshore are the very same media conglomerates now pushing Hillary Clinton’s agenda,” Navarro continued.

Farm Holding Annual Firework Displays Worries Campaign F.A.B
Halloween and bonfire night are just around the corner, many animals suffer greatly his time of year with animal welfare groups campaigning for the fair use of fireworks near areas where animals are held such as farms and rescue centres.
The RSPCA also wants firework displays restricted to just four major celebrations a year so that owners can protect their animals from the mayhem caused by powerful explosions.
Another group campaigning are FAB firework, (Firework Abatement Page), who are requesting the number of days to be reduced from the legal 365 days to just 10 days a year over traditional events only.
The latest situation to be brought to the attention of FAB is an annual firework display at Lower Drayton Farm, Lower Drayton, Penkridge.
A statement on the Lower Drayton Farm/LDF Entertainment Hub, Facebook page said: “We have had a number of people expressing concern about the safety of animals on the farm during the fireworks display.
“Rather than respond to everyone individually we want to state that we take animal welfare very seriously.
“We organise a highly professional display and believe that this kind of organised event is far better than amateur ‘back garden’ displays as they are advertised well in advance and local pet / livestock owners are aware that there will be display at a set time and date and can make arrangements accordingly.
“As for our own livestock, we make every effort to ensure that animals likely to be affected by the fireworks are safely in their pens/houses and that they are carefully checked before, during and after the display.
“2016 will be the 10th year the fireworks display on the farm and we have never had animals panicked or injured by the fireworks and make every effort to ensure they remain calm and safe throughout.
When asked about the possibility of using low decibel fireworks at future displays another statement read: “Silent fireworks certainly sound interesting and something we will investigate.
“Thanks for your feedback and concern we do take this on board”.
15 minutes of what some may call fun can often result in hundreds of pounds in veterinary fees for many animal owners nationwide.
Earlier in the year FAB were successful in campaigning to get Manchester Airport to re-locate a fireworks display by 3/4 of a mile to appease any stress on pet owners and animals after they had a planned display which was uncomfortably close to an animal rescue centre.

70 Live Animal Export Protesters Halt Lorries At Port Of Ramsgate
Live animal export protesters at the port of Ramsgate have caused lorries to come to a complete standstill again as for the second week running around 70 KAALE members voiced their concerns as a shipment was due to take place.
Three animal export lorries which contained over 1200 sheep arrived at the port of Ramsgate at around 1:30pm, Monday, October 10, 2016, the lorries were due to be loaded onto ships before being sent out for slaughter in Europe.
Anti live export campaigners caused the vehicles to a halt for around ten minutes as some protesters were seen sitting on the road and stopping the lorries from moving any further.
Former Thanet councillor, Ian Driver, a co-founder of the campaign against live exports from Ramsgate, said: “This appalling and cruel trade, which most people oppose, is only permitted because of inflexible EU free-trade rules. As Brexit gets closer the chance of stopping this medieval business once and for all is becoming greater.

Defamation | Law | Mcnaes chapter 19,20 and 21 pages 253 – 298
Defamation Act 2013
Before 2013, Juries tried most defamation cases.
Defamation ACT 2013 Cases heard by judge alone.
A Defamatory statements made in written form is libel – in spoken form it is slander.
- Written – Libel
- Spoken – Slander
- Broadcast on radio or TV – Libel
- Public performance in a play – slander
WHAT IS CLASSED AS DEFAMATION?
Defamation ACT 2013 section 1 – a statement is not defamatory unless it’s publication has caused, or is likely to cause,”serious harm” to a claimant’s reputation.
Harm to the reputation of “a body that trades for profit” is not “serious harm” unless it has caused, or is likely to cause, the body, “serious financial loss”.
These can include defamation or inference so care must be taken. The test is what a “reasonable person” would take the words to mean.
Right thinking members of society is the key phrase.
There are libel dangers from juxtaposition of published matter which can create inference and also from a lax captioning and use of photos/footage.
Inference – Can read between the lines.
Innuendos – Might seem innocuous but defamatory in the eyes of people with special knowledge.
Lord Gowrie and the Daily Star 1986 – words and meaning of a story made it clear to those in the know that he was a drug addict.
LIBEL CLAIMANTS
A libel claimant must prove three things: D.I.P.
- That the statement is defamatory.
- That they have been identified (it may reasonably be understood to refer to him/her).
- That it has been published by a third person.
The test of identification – the risk of libeling an individual by reference to a group of people. This could also allow the whole group to claim.
Defamation claimants must prove that the published material identifies them.
Ommitting the name might not necessarily be a protection.
Test – would the published statement reasonably lead to acquainted people you have to believe you are the person being refereed to.
It is sufficient if those who know the claimant can make out he is the person meant. – Bourke v Warren (1826)
WRONG PHOTOS OR CAPTION
Wrong photo could identify soemone even if not named
In 2015, Sunday Mirror paid out £100.000 plus costs.
Falsely identified a man in a photograph as the rapist of lorworth hoare.
www.theguardian.com
Newstead v London Express Newspapers (1940)
Daily Express reported Harold Newstead
DEFAMATION OF A GROUP
If a defamatory statement refers to someone being a member of a group, but includes no other identifying detail of that person, all members of the group can sue.
Riches and others v News Group Newspapers 1985.
Newspaper published allegation that detectives at Banbury CID had raped a woman.
Newspaper did not name those allegedly involved
all 12 detectives successfully sued.
FIGHTING DEFAMATION
Why:
Uncertain how the judge will interpret what is written
Difficult to prove
Huge damages
Massive legal costs paid by the loser
It might be better to settle out of court
WHAT ELSE
the person who is claiming:
Does not have to prove the statement is false.
The journalist has to prove it is true.
They do not have to prove intention.
It is not enough for the journalist to say they didn’t mean to damage your reputation.
REPETITION RULE
Repetition rule – each repetition is a false liable.
1993 and 1994 papers paid damages to defendants in the Birmingham 6 case.
jailed for terrorism offences but later cleared on appeal.
Officers accused of fabricating evidence
SINGLE PUBLICATION RULE
Section 8 of the new act adds in the “single publication” rule for online.
Prior to this every fresh publication websites was seen as a new libel.
The period for bringing a defamation action starts from the date of the first publication, even if ‘substantially the same’ material is subsequently published.
